Primary occupation: General Management. Senior Cad Systems bv. was part of a group of companies (AKB de Boele) who together realised office buildings and shopping malls in a total concept (from inception until demolition). The group consisted of an architect, real estate broker, project developer, building cost expert, building management bureau, exploitation service bureau and internal support company. The role of Senior Cad Systems was to provide CAD capacity and expertise, especially in the working with AutoCAD and 3D database driven CAD systems. Further more Senior Cad Systems was responsible for R&D within the group and acquired subsidies in the IFD demonstration programme. IFD stands for Industrial, Flexible and Demountable Building.
Within Senior Cad Systems I was responsible for the actual management of the company. Senior Cad Systems went bankrupt because the group was unable to acquire enough tenants for the buildings and shopping malls in time, so the projects suffered large delays in their financing. Being at the end of the pipeline Senior Cad Systems was the second of the companies in the group to go belly up.

Function: Head department Information technology for Building and Construction
Primary Occupation: Managing a Research department of TNO. TNO is one of the largest research and technology organisations of Europe.
Their mission: to make scientific knowledge applicable to strengthen the innovative capacity of business and government. Within the department "Information Technology for Building and Construction" I was responsible for a staff of 12-15 researchers ranging from junior researchers to a university professor. Apart from the people management I was responsible for the work programme of the department writing business plans, acquisition of work and research budgets. Further more, managing some complex multi-partner projects also was part of the job.
Another task was representing TNO within national and international bodies like ISO. I represented the Netherlands on several occasions with ISO/TC184/WG3 in the end 1990s.
A lot of the research projects where executed within the RTD framework programmes of the European Union. Projects worked on where "Maritime", "Vega", "MAREXPO", "CONCUR", "eConstruct", "Elsewise", ... Example of national projects worked on are e.g. projects for the Dutch ministry of public works; Half-Time - a project done with a large construction company to reduce the building time by 50% and a logistics evaluation of the construction process of the Westerscheldetunnel.

Primary Occupation: Conducting a European research project titled "Musyk" and deploying the results of this projects within the shipyards of Bremer Vulkan. MUSYK was about the development of shop floor control systems, network planning software and cash flow prediction software in the one-of-a-kind industry.
The department in which I worked was also responsible for the development of yard concepts and involved in the acquisition of new east-German shipyards after the cold-war.

Primary occupation: Conducting European research in several projects in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th framework programme of the European Union. The projects dealt with shop floor control systems in the one-of-a-kind industry and product modelling. Worked and managed several projects like: Human Centred CIM systems, ROCOCO, Neutrabas, Musyk, Pasha, ... . Further more worked on some German projects like Planleit, a project for the development of shop floor control, especially in the shipbuilding area and some (classified) aerospace projects.

The work done was the basis for my dissertation at the university in the department of aerospace technology.

Primary business: Los Aerospace and Software was a one-man enterprise with which a performed freelance contracts primarily in the development of early PC based ERP systems for some companies. Most of the work was done for Grote Beer Software. Operating systems used where MS-DOS and CP/M.
The aerospace branch was primarily spending money on flight training and obtaining a university degree in aerospace engineering. Some work done as a chartered glider technician.
The company was terminated when emigrating to Germany.


Freelance work and projects
Below find some projects I have been working on (as far as not described elsewhere in this document)


2003-2004 - Evaluation of FP6 projects for EU DG-TRANS: Was on a task contract involved in the evaluation procedures in the 6th framework programme for the Commission of the EU. The projects primarily dealt with shipbuilding. Because I signed a confidentiality declaration no further details will be provided here.
May 2004 - SAP preparation of a presentation SAP Nederland:
SAP asked me to support them in the preparation of an presentation for a Dutch construction company.
2002-2003 - IFD project RSC Oostpoort - Roosendaal:
Managing the R&D side of a demonstration construction project of a shopping mall in the framework of the IFD programme.
2000-2004 - Evaluation and Review of R&D projects for the German research Council (DfG):
I am an independent reviewer for the German Research Council in a programme called "Network centric engineering processes in building and construction". This programme is now starting its 3e 2 year concluding phase. It primarily sponsors PhD research in German Technical Universities

1998-2001 - Half-Time:
The multi year project Half-Time was a co-operation between TNO, the Dutch Research Organisation and HBG, the largest construction company in the Netherlands. Goal of the project was reducing the building time by 50%. The project consisted of 3 clusters of projects. One clusters dealt with organisational issues in the building process, the 2nd cluster dealt with technological improvements of the building process like new types of concrete, positioning using GPS systems, etc.
The third cluster was about ICT and knowledge support. Think of the implementation of document management systems, improved planning, use of virtual environments and 4D-CAD.
My role was the co-ordination of the entire programme on behalf of TNO.

Basic and dialects Programmed in various dialects of Basic like Microsoft Basic, Visual Basic and Visual Basic for Applications Several years of professional development at Grote Beer Software in the period 1983-1986. Development of database type of applications for use in CRM.

Modula/Pascal/Delphi Familiar, though some time ago know Development of Expert System on a DEC-VAX machines; Scheduling Software on APOLLO systems; Various tools for PC using Borlands Turbo Pascal like printer driver, support of self developed speech hardware and finite element calculations on hybrid aerospace construction materials.

PHP / HTML Development of dynamic websites. Good skills. Recent development of a database driven website for the control of building projects. This website is also developed in PHP.

Python basic knowledge Written small scripts for Windows and Linux to learn the language and appreciate its possibilities.

SQL and ODBC - Large experience with several flavours like ORACLE, INFORMIX, MS-ACCESS, MySQL, POSTGRESQL Mostly applied in embedded SQL applications, but also developed more complex SQL scripts for database maintenance. Applications aimed at production planning, project administration, CRM systems, literature databases, evaluation and reviewing procedures, etc.

UML / IDEF / NIAM Skills with several diagramming techniques like class diagrams (Booch), USE-Case design, activity diagrams, Timing diagrams, etc. Worked before UML came to existence with IDEF-0, NIAM and GRAI. Done some freelance work for SAP recently. Build extensive models for the PhD Thesis and research projects.

XML/RDF Studied (see pages on the semantic web) Currently studying XML/RDF/OWL (semantic web technology) in the framework of the private development of a 4D knowledge system

Applications
Microsoft Office - Vast experience with all versions of Microsoft office. Very skilled in PowerPoint, Word, Access and Excel. Developed small macros in Visual Basic for applications if necessary e.g. to integrate ODBC databases, etc. Developed larger applications in Excel and Access to assist in financial, project and customer management.

OpenOffice - Worked in the last year with OpenOffice 1.1.1 on Linux and Windows platforms. Especially the coupling with MySQL provides a very powerful tool. Good replacement if necessary for the Microsoft suite.

MindMapping - For rapid document structuring and information acquisition I use MindManager 3.5 . This tool exports to the office suite. Very useful in consultancy and brainstorm sessions.

Planning tools - Worked extensively with MS-Project in practical cases, gave courses on the use of these tools and worked with systems like PrimaVera.

Multi-media - Large experience in the use of photo editing tools like PaintShop Pro, ACDSee, etc. Worked successfully with video editing software Pinnacle Studio 6-8.

Member of D'66 since 2003. No current active role.
Aviation
During my study and afterwards I was pretty active in light aviation. made some 3500 glider flight, was instructor and chartered glider technician, licensed to perform airworthiness inspections, all major repairs and flight tests. 40 hours of power glider flights and some 50 hours of light aircraft like Piper, Cessna, Maurane. Stop active flying when my first child was born. Since then only fly the computer.
Saxophone/keyboards
A recent hobby is playing the saxophone. For this occasion I rented an alt-sax and took some classes.
When still at school I learned to play the piano and when living in Germany I took up playing keyboards. Still like playing songs with the children.
Painting
Painting is a hobby I am doing quite some time now, though the last few years out of a lack of times a little less. Hope to publish some of my paintings soon on the website.
