Recruited by the owner/CEO to eventually take over from him as he was nearing retirement. Turnover £10m. Third-party logistics providers to a wide range of customers including automotive (Ford and GM) and food sectors (Danone and Heinz). The appointment covered all aspects of a busy third-party business including warehousing, transport and rail-head operations. Responsibilities included:
¨ Business development.
¨ Specification, procurement and implementation of plant and equipment including vehicles.
¨ Project management of railhead expansion.
¨ IT implementation and development.

Achievements included:
¨ Developed and implemented a WMS to meet the needs of a major contract.


1997/2000 TETROSYL, BURY
Distribution Director
A senior management role in a family owned company (turnover approaching £80 million) supplying a range of 6000+ products to trade, wholesale, retail and multiple outlets, both in the UK and world-wide. Part of the range falls within the scope of IMDG, ADR and CDG Regulations. Originally, the role encompassed the management of an 80+ strong LGV fleet, the company car fleet, vehicle workshop and all MHE. Responsible for specification, procurement and implementation of all vehicles, trailers and MHE. Budget £6 million. In a typical week 4500 pallets were delivered to 1200 delivery points.
Achievements included:
¨ Restructured management within department.
¨ Implementation of systems applications to improve LGV and car fleet management.
¨ Outsourced car fleet management.
¨ Reduced fleet by 50% with major outsourcing contract.


1995/7 WATERFORD JUICES, MANCHESTER
Logistics Manager
A division of Waterford Foods plc supplying the major retailers, wholesalers and independents with a comprehensive range of chilled and ambient fruit juices and juice drinks. Sales £70 million. Employees: 300. Reporting to Managing Director, as a member of the Divisional Board the role encompassed the full logistics brief from raw material and packaging procurement and storage to the final delivery of both temperature-controlled and ambient finished goods, including close logistics liaison with major customers, sales and marketing. Responsibility for 35 staff through 5 reportees, total direct budgetary responsibility £13 million, with influence over a further £20 million.



Achievements included:
¨ Planning proposal and implementation of £200k project to redesign warehouse and introduce IT systems.
¨ Restructuring of procurement section to improve control and communication.
¨ Restructuring of Ambient and Chilled warehouse operations to reduce costs saving £75k p.a.
¨ Re-organisation of own fleet and transport contractor arrangements saving £50k p.a.
¨ Reduced packaging and raw material inventory.
¨ Provide key input to IT project group working toward MRPII implementation.


1993/5 YOUNG’S CHILLED FISH, GRIMSBY
Distribution and Logistics Manager
A Division of UB(Ross Young’s)Ltd., supplying the major retailers with fresh and processed fish products. Sales £55 million p.a. Employees: 350. Reporting to General Manager and responsible for 25 employees.
