A key provider of strategic influence and performance improvement and a driver of change in the SME sector, as well as in quoted companies such as Allied Irish Bank, Finning, Lex, Brown & Tawse and Wickes. Extensive hands-on operational experience in purchasing and supply-chain, business administration, sales and marketing and balance sheet management.
²As trouble-shooter, consultant and interim manager, has operated in a variety of roles (e.g., production, procurement, sales & marketing, business development) across a diverse range of sectors, e.g., printing, precision engineering, glassmaking, construction, distribution and heavy industry. Fundamental throughout has been the ability to add value and make things happen with a rolled-up sleeves demeanour, an analytical approach and a ‘can-do’ philosophy.
²As Parts Manager of West African subsidiary of UK parent, established new markets for heavy-duty diesel engines and industrial roller bearings. Subsequently appointed to similar market development roles at Southern African subsidiary, embracing Firestone tyres and Deutz engine components. Additionally, he was also given responsibility for a major inventory analysis and reduction project. Immediate benefits were a sharp reduction in work-in-progress, as a large backlog of major component rebuild orders was completed, all of which had hitherto been awaiting the importation of spares from overseas suppliers. Fast-track promotion culminated in appointment as Group Parts Marketing Manager, based at UK headquarters.
²Developed worldwide parts and service business and managed international network of distributor companies (with sales of £500m) across Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia. Established strong credibility and good working relationships with OEMs such as General Motors, Terex Corporation, Isuzu Motors, J I Case, JCB, John Deere, Cummins Engines, Harnischfeger, Ingersoll Rand etc.
²Opened up UK market for major USA supplier of replacement diesel engine parts. Secured groundbreaking sales to the MoD and major organisations such as Wimpey Mining, Costain, Taylor Woodrow, and Northern Strip Mining etc.

A cross-section of interim management assignments completed:

² Conducted an appraisal of the supply-chain and warehousing for a national DIY chain in order to determine optimum specification and layout of new distribution centre
² Re-structured and successfully re-financed a business involved in the manufacture of Cartesian robots and special purpose, high technology precision machinery for use in the electric motor industry. As a result, the business successfully traded out of its difficulties
² Conducted a strategic review of the UK plant-hire market on behalf of a Canadian quoted company. Project culminated in the acquisition of the UK market leader in a £300m deal
² Project managed a comprehensive review of the UK diesel genset market for a multi-national organisation from the twin perspectives of 1) commercial viability and 2) implications for strategy. As a result, client cancelled a major investment programme
² Spearheaded a strategic review of third party servicing and maintenance of capital equipment on behalf of major plc. The project culminated in a joint venture between the client and a major international engineering company
² Overhauled the management operating systems of a glass manufacturing business. The net result meant the bank’s confidence was retained and the business successfully traded out of its difficulties
² Restructured an industrial products distribution business, resulting in vastly improved management controls and increased sales and profits
² Restructured a £multi-million diesel component re-manufacturing division of an international construction equipment company, resulting in reduced costs and increased market share
² Restructured the logistics operations of a 35 branch network of a major financial services organisation following which, substantial cost savings were achieved
² Conducted a comprehensive review of the supply chain and management of a large European supplier of fresh and frozen products to a domestic supermarket chain
² Conducted a strategic review of the rail maintenance sector, for both infrastructure and rolling stock, resulting in new business opportunities being identified for the client
² As business development manager, made numerous sales presentations and negotiated contracts with major players in the pharmaceutical industry for a business involved in providing software solutions for data analysis
² Conducted a comprehensive business review, leading to the restructuring of a manufacturer (fourth largest) of diesel fuel injection systems in China, as a prelude to privatisation. Key business issues addressed included corporate governance, overhead reduction, management reporting, procurement, cash flow and credit management, production and quality control and sales & marketing.
