Profile: Financial Director - Controller with extensive multi-national experience gained from senior management
positions in major corporations in manufacturing, engineering, service and distribution. He has
accumulated a broad spread of financial and management expertise, coupled with leading large and small
teams of professional and support personnel in the UK and overseas.

In contrast, has also worked as part of the executive management team or with small groups of entrepreneurs in starting-up several small companies and subsidiaries, developing business plans to support initial funding, formulating strategies for growth and achieving a strong financial position within a comparatively short time.

August 2001 ¡V September 2001 Contracted by Serco Europe & Middle East limited to develop a business model as part of the commercial re-bid to manage the National Physics Laboratory operations in Surrey.

November 2000 ¡V July 2001 Engaged by Telematix Ltd as interim finance manager to improve commercial processes including bid management and sales order processing/forecasting etc. and to manage a due diligence examination to secure second tranche funding. Assumed full role of interim Finance.Director in January 2001, embracing responsibility for annual audit and ¡§long form¡¨ preparation for IPO and AIM listing later this year. The company was formed in 1998 to provide vehicle security and tracking solutions using international telecomm and satellite positioning devices through conventional and web enabled systems.

February 2000 ¡V June 2000 Contracted by Serco Limited to work with the Serco/Denholm Ltd. bid team to develop a commercial response for a major Roll-on Roll-off passenger ferry operation. Also assisted with the design, development and assimilation of information for the financial model submitted as an integral part of the competitive bid response and worked with city based lease finance advisors to secure investment capital for two new ferries.

November 99 ¡V December 99 Engaged by start-up IT and management consultancy company to prepare business plans with full supporting financial model to attract investor finance and customer interest. Also required to review and report on financial practices and procedures and recommend improvements to support growth.


August 99 ¡V October 99 Three month assignment to provide consultancy support to the Defence Communications Services Agency. in an interim financial management role. Contributed to the development of proposals for the introduction of structured business planning, performance management and output costing. Advised financial management and provided training for non financial managers in the transition to accrual accounting (RAB) and the introduction of devolved budgeting processes for the MOD agency.

June/July 99 Developed ABM (activity based management) presentation for COMAX/AMEY during a period of personal post operation recovery. Delivered the results of the product to the Defence Communications Service Agency (DCSA) as part of a proposal for output costing and performance management implementation at the agency.

February 99 ¡V May 99 Subcontracted to evaluate, recommend and implement time recording and project costing software and design internal procedures for UNCTAD (United Nations Conference for Trade and Development) at their Geneva Headquarters.


July 98 ¡V February 99 Various assignments with DERA (Defence Evaluation and Research Agency) sites to evaluate the financial impact of Year 2000 non-compliance issues affecting DERA operations. Developed capital appraisals and discounted cash flow plans in conjunction with project leaders and operational personnel for presentation to the DERA Board. Also engaged as a member of the DERA internal audit team to conduct self audit examinations of selected DERA operational locations as part of a new initiative to reduce the impact of invasive audit necessary by the MoD¡¦s SPS (Special Procurement Services) group to ensure compliance with MoD regulations, contract and financial constraints.


April 98 ¡V June 98 Engaged as a member of the MoD Corporate Finance Centre at Whitehall to support the fixed assets and stock policy advisory team. The team was responsible for the development of accounting policies and procedures for MoD wide adoption. Also involved with the valuation of MoD assets and the production of the first MoD Balance Sheet through discussion and co-operation with Navy, RAF, Army and HQ departments.

November 97 ¡V April 98 ƒnProvided financial consultancy support to the Royal Navy Aircraft Directorate to determine and introduce appropriate solutions to provide acceptable stock and capital spares accounting procedures as part of the transition to full commercial accounting capability within the Ministry of Defence utilising ORACLE financials software.

February 97 ¡V October 97 Engaged as Interim Finance Director for nine months with the NARO (Naval Aircraft Repair Organisation),an Agency of the Ministry of Defence to provide change management experience to enable the transition to commercial accounting practices and procedures. Involved in Business Process re engineering and TQM initiatives, the introduction of financial and ERP software, partnering with private industry and supporting the leadership of change as a member of the agency Board.

April 96 ¡V January 97 Project managed the implementation of modern client server based computerised accounting and business software and necessary procedures within the HM Prison Service for the Finance organisation.


May 95 ¡V February 96 An eight month overseas assignment as part of a team of British Steel consultants engaged by the World Bank and Government of Zimbabwe to undertake a diagnostic business analysis and recommend a suitable turnaround strategy for the Zimbabwe Iron & Steel Company Ltd. Also operated as part of a four man resident management team to promote improved methods systems and procedures in conjunction with the company¡¦s black management executive team and Board of directors.

October 1993 to 1996 Several assignments for various NHS Trust Hospitals to meet the changing requirements and demands for costing, financial analysis, value for money and business planning imposed by the N.H.M.E.


1994 Interim management positions which include overseeing the production of year end accounts and contributing to margin analysis and competitive pricing strategy for winter holiday brochure launch with a local tour operator. Also engaged by a leading leisure Plc to oversee the completion of year end accounts and assist the F.D. with the preparation of a financial model, business plan and a working capital report for presentation to major lenders to establish continued funding support during a period of company restructuring, refinancing and creditor arrangement.
