Work Experience

In a nutshell, my experience is one of an entrepreneur in the Information Technology and Communications (ICT) field.

I have decided to propose my services to potential employers looking for someone with my profile.

In my former position as co-founder, co-CEO and then CEO of BIM s.a., I acquired a broad experience in serving the Information Technology needs of large accounts. Most of them were early adopters, having adopted the UNIX operating system and the TCP/IP protocol as early as 1985 along with Java and other emerging Internet technologies around 1995. BIM was essentially acting as systems integrator for customers concerned with systems architecture, applications integration and standardization issues.

Most of these customers were international organizations including the European Space Agency (ESA), ESTEC, ESRIN, NATO, the European Commission, firms like the former Swiss Bank Corporation (Now merged into UBS), Tivoli, PSA (Peugeot), Matra, Dassault, and Perot Systems, or large government agencies.

Over the years, I have developed very constructive relations with many Silicon Valley companies like Sun Microsystems, Sybase, Wellfleet, NCD, Verity, Tivoli and others. Some of them do not exist anymore, but all of them contributed essential products to the network computing model.

My position was essentially sales-focused. One of my major achievement at BIM was to motivate a highly skilled pre-sales and sales force, having increased BIM sales to about 35 million US $ in fifteen years in the small, widely regarded as difficult, Belgian market. I was particularly attentive to the right pre-sales and sales efforts mix, to the setting of achievable but challenging sales objectives and formally reviewing them monthly with the sales staff. I am keenly aware of the importance of realistic sales forecasts whilst setting sufficiently ambitious objectives to continuously gain market share.

In addition to such sales and marketing responsibilities, I have of course been handling all other managerial issues, be they Human Resources-related, financial, legal or administrative. In particular, during my time with BIM, I recruited salespersons, pre-sales engineers, systems architects and development engineers. Most of them were young graduates with an average age of less than thirty. Financial, legal or administrative issues led me to interface with the full range of company advisors (lawyers, auditors, accountants, tax consultants and PR agencies) and sub-contractors generally encountered during the course of daily business activities. In addition, having raised venture capital, bought and sold companies, both in the US and in Europe, I have also dealt extensively with VC’s, Investment Bankers and Corporate Finance lawyers.

This experience made me highly familiar with the US information technology and business culture. I also feel at home in many European countries, particularly in Paris, were my previous business experience has been very helpful in developing my understanding of large corporate accounts in France. I would also consider relocating in many territories beyond Europe, namely, Islamic countries such as Iran or advanced Arabic countries.

In summary, I would expect my experience to be helpful in developing a company business, particularly, but not exclusively, an ITC or ITC-related business. I am looking for an opportunity where I could fully satisfy my entrepreneur’s drive and bring to my employer extensive general management experience, my business prospective, a broad understanding of ITC issues and a very good understanding of both US and European and business cultures.
