COMMUNICATIONS & ENGAGEMENT MANAGER – Milton Keynes / South Midlands (MKSM) Health & Social Care Project

Funded by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM) and working for Leicestershire, Northamptonshire & Rutland Strategic Health Authority (SHA), responsible for successful communication with, and engagement of, key stakeholders in the development of a robust vision of what a modernized Health and Social Care service might look like to support the additional population and housing anticipated across the MKSM Sub- Region Growth Area.

Expanded stakeholder contact list from a handful of enthusiasts to a database of around 1000 key individuals and developed a strategy to positively influence senior staff in 3 SHAs, 5 Social Services Authorities, 3 Government Offices and Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM), 8 Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) and 12 NHS Trusts and other key stakeholders including Scrutiny Committees, members of the public, pressure groups and the media.

Managed a budget to deliver a web site and useful reference store at mksm.nhs Provided supporting Project Management through arranging diverse stakeholder conferences and other events, and ensured timely delivery of a number of studies. Interpreted Government ambitions for the Growth Area, raised the whole issue of communications up the agenda of stakeholder organizations, and represented Health & Social Care on the MKSM Communications Reference Group and on ODPM Growth Areas Communications Network and produced communications collateral to inform and engage the Sub-Regions Health and Social Care Public Sector, Private Sector and Not for Profit communities.


COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER (NHS) - Northamptonshire Heartlands Primary Care Trust

Responsible for internal and external communications, Intranet and Internet site development and Media Relations.
· Project managed and wrote radio campaign for Stop Smoking Support Service.
· Wrote weekly Ezine for PCT and was responsible for producing Annual Report, Your Guide to Local Health Services and for localization of national health campaigns (e.g. ‘Flu, Get the Right Treatment, MMR).
· Developed ‘Auntie Biotic’ campaign for 3 PCTs in Northamptonshire and shared this with other PCTs throughout England

· Enjoyed daily contact with local press, and with radio and TV as necessary and appropriate, organizing and sometimes giving media interviews.
· Built good relations with staff, stakeholders, and third party suppliers at all levels.
· Undertook photography on behalf of the PCT
· Handled media on sensitive issues, such as GP taken hostage in Kettering and closure of GP practice in Corby.


BUSINESS CONSULTANT AND COPYWRITER
Provided marketing consultancy and strategic, creative and copy solutions to such as Virgin Cars and Argos. Worked with a number of leading Advertising Agencies and Creative Consultancies as part of their creative team on major UK and global business. Strategic Marketing Consultancy apart, I provided my clients with creative input into concept development as well as copy solutions for anything from a news release, through literature, advertising, direct marketing and promotions, to web site copy and New Media.

· Inputted to web design and development and originated copy for commsxl (leading UK developer and supplier of credit card processing and authorization software) Wrote case studies and advertisements for them also.
· Copywrote DM letters for Blue Ocean software.
· In tandem with various Agencies developed and implemented marketing plans for local SMEs, national and international businesses. Recent projects include consultancy and copywriting launch materials direct for Virgin Cars (after their agency failed to come up with an appropriate launch platform). Also sector specific DM campaigns for the Chartered Institute of Management, brochures, posters and advertisements for Technology Means Business, a DVD script for a major player in Mobile Telecommunications, and features, catalogue and web copy for Argos (on their preferred suppliers list).
· Wrote CD-ROM celebrating 150 Years of Public Libraries presented to Tony Blair in Peckham.
· Styled and wrote first internal/external/ stakeholder newsletter for Media Information (Mediadisk)
· Ran weekly Focus Group for cigarette manufacturer researching low tar, low sidestream cigarettes from around the world.
· Conducted research interviews and recruited focus groups for other companies including one for the last General Election in marginal constituencies.
· Enjoyed daily involvement with all aspects of marketing mix, providing consultancy and producing and contributing to seamlessly integrated sales and marketing campaigns through the line.
· Wrote feature articles for an Internet business magazine and variety of trade and consumer publications including Project (publication of the Institute of Project Management).
· Retained by Top 10 sales promotion agency to establish new business plan and prospect database.
· Produced copy for Forte Hotels Christmas, London and Leisure Breaks brochures and Devonport Docks (refitting nuclear submarines).


ACCOUNT DIRECTORSHIP
Held senior Management positions in a number of Advertising Agencies and Design Consultancies where and was responsible for winning business and for delivering integrated campaigns to local and international markets on brief on budget and on time, often handling up to 50 projects simultaneously. Additionally responsible for presenting to board level internally and externally and for liaising with third party suppliers as necessary. Variously involved with model casting, model making, styling, propping, Art Directing, and budgeting in addition to managing and motivating teams of up to 10 people.



· Responsible for winning the business, strategic planning and account directing launch of PCBU for Siemens Nixdorf.
· Responsible for branding, account directing and writing ‘IBank’ collateral (an integrated banking software system that could be run on existing hardware) for ICL FSB. This was aimed at 15 Eastern European Banks and resulted in two of them adopting the product
· Developed logo style and project managed and wrote all collateral (invitations, delegate / partner itineraries, brochure and collated and edited keynote speeches) for ICL FSB annual conferences in Seville and Budapest.
· Responsible for winning, account directing and Pan-European brand identity for Dolmio packaging design launch, producing all collateral except media.
· Relaunched and rebranded Lucozade away from an aid to recovery to a healthy lifestyle brand and originated separate brand identity for Lucozade Sport.
· Worked extensively with IDV on brand identity and launch of Dunhill Scotch and Ming Lychee liqueur through Duty Free sales worldwide.
· Worked extensively with Rothmans International on development of new low tar brands for Europe and the Middle East, as well.
· Launched Lyons Teas in revolutionary gas flush packaging to Middle East.
· Account directed up to 50 complex campaigns from initial strategy through implementation to launch and subsequent evaluation at any one time.
· Relaunched Bonduelle vegetable range to the UK working closely with the company in France.
· Directed team responsible for strategic planning, media relations and account management and development of existing business.
· Worked on Lancôme Cosmetics globally.
· Won BA Club Class and Lanson Champagne SP accounts whilst working freelance to establish a business development strategy for a Top 5 Sales Promotion Agency.
· FMCG experience includes directing major launches/ relaunches for Mars (Dolmio), Quaker (Cereals), CPC (Knorr / Hellmann\'s, SmithKline Beecham (Lucozade), IDV, Bass, Reckitt (Mr Sheen) and Allied Lyons (Food and Beverages).

· Relaunched Typhoo Tea to catering sector and repositioned Churchill China after Sir John Harvey Jones featured them on TV.

· Created new corporate identities and implementation guidelines for Tiphook Plc, BA Helicopters and Silver Spring and presented these to employees, customers and shareholders.

· Won 2 company wide incentive schemes whilst with Cadbury Schweppes, becoming the youngest Senior Manager out of 38000 employees worldwide at the age of 25.


PRODUCT MARKETING DEVELOPMENT / MANAGEMENT
· NPD from concept, through research, to test market launch, roll out and evaluation.
· Launched So Soft fabric conditioner, developed Parozone Foaming Bleach Block, various in-cistern products and range of cold oven cleaners and floral disinfectants.
· Relaunched Parozone as first directional bleach.
· Devised and implemented account specific promotions, growing turnover by 90% in two years.
